WATA follows the journey of Jazz music traveling across waters from its African influences, its New Orleans emergence and drawing particular focus on its current resurgence in London today. In this film, Jazz music is portrayed as the African water spirit, Mami Wata. Her story, like Jazz, has travelled across countries, seas and generations. WATA follows the story of the water deity enticing wanderers into her waters full of sound. The underwater journey is of discovery, self reflection and is a metaphor for the captivating sounds and talent that make up the Jazz scene in London, and Mami Wata is an ode to the cultural root of Jazz.
